Have you ever experienced this? When giving a temporary worker a command, one can not be certain that this person will be able to do as instructed. You do not know the man’s abilities and whether he understand the task. This worker also knows not the standards and way in which you want the work to be completed. This is what I call obedience drag coefficient. The try to eliminate the drag coefficient in cars and planes, but as people we need to eliminate all forms of disobedience, to become more efficient and productive.

A permanent worker on the other hand is trained in both the will and the way of the owner, and has also developed the required skill-set to complete the task accurately. He knows where to find the right tools, and because he was trained he execute the task perfectly.

Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. James 2:21-25

Law of liberty and truth: John 8:32; Rom. 8:2; 2 Cor. 3:17]; Gal. 2:4; 6:2; James 2:12; 1 Pet. 2:16

Many struggle to obey God because they do not know His will nor His ways. Ps 78

When facing the command giver, one receive instructions, and confirms one knows how to execute the task. But in the turning away to go and do it, there erupts a discrepancy. You suddenly realize you did ask for specifics, uncertain you struggle forth, doing as one think it should be done. Commands and instruction is common, between spouses, parents and children, workers and their management… and thousands of frustrations when the task was not completed in the right way.

Something happens when we turn away to go and do what is required. The consequential turning, changing, altering, distorting, of and instruction and desire. When one commission an art work, and the artist in-vision a complete different image, than what is commissioned.

The obedience drag coefficient.

We do this too, when hearing or getting instructions from God.

We filter the instruction with our tastes, and preferences and come up with a different result.

This leads to much frustration and disappointments, and even wastage, as many times the work has to be redone.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:5-8 When in God’s presence we are sure of our identity, His love, we see clearly, and feel deeply what God desires. When we go out of His presence, and turn away from Him we begin to doubt… did God really say? We look at the realities we face, and forget the reality of His presence and will.

Another example of the obedience drag coefficient.

The Bible gives a solution:

for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ Acts 17:28

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. John 15:4

Moses abandoned, left the task at hand to move closer to the burning thorn bush. Exo 3:1-2. He learned to do this and His face began to radiate the glory of God, so that people could not look at him.

Ecclesiastes 8:1
Who is like a wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, And the sternness of his face is changed.

When our will, knowledge, and ways becomes so intertwined with the Father, we no longer turn away. We become! John 1:12. No more dualism and distance. The Kingdom of heaven is at hand. Mat 6:33 And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give Mat 10:7-8

You no longer rely on your effort, ability, knowledge, or understanding. You have been transformed, you express His will and desire in everything you do. No more in and out. You are dead and has been consumed as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable. Rom 12:1 You do His will, you walk in His authority, His ability, His grace.

You walk in love, peace and joy.
You patiently continue to be kind and do good.
Faithful in gentleness and self control.

We are the chosen habitat of the most high, who wants to perform His Word through us. Jer 1:12
